UK Charity Jobs is dedicated to proactively advertising civil society and third sector jobs from the 12,000 charitable organisations in Northern Ireland. The sector is by no means insignificant with an estimated 6,000 organisations generating an income of £618 million from contracts and grant funding, according to the Council for Voluntary Action (NICVA) www.nicva.org.
The number of people employed in the sector is difficult to gauge, but most estimates are around 46,000 individuals with around 75% being female. The main areas of work are in:
- Community Development
- Children/Young People
- Health and wellbeing
There is pressure on funding due to cuts in grant funding and this will probably accelerate post Covid-19. However, the need for passionate, dedicated people to work in the sector will also grow. There will be a need to support older people suffering from poverty and loneliness and children that have fallen behind at school. Many adults that have lost their jobs will require mental health support and career guidance. You could always make a massive difference by working in the charity sector, but today the impact of Covid-19 will mean your contribution will be even more impactful.
