Job Description:

You will be a visionary, inspirational arts leader who is a passionate advocate for underrepresented artists and writers. You’re also a highly experienced fundraiser with a solid track record. You’re highly knowledgeable about the arts and have great arts contacts. You are also a highly adaptable and efficient organisational manager used to dealing with the challenges of the voluntary arts sector and have a clear understanding of the barriers underrepresented artists and writers face. Deadline: Midnight Sunday 6th May 


Role: Creative Future DIRECTOR


Hours: Part time, 3 days per week, (24 hours)


Salary: £38-40,000 per annum pro rata (depending on experience)

This is an exciting time to be Director of Creative Future. The organisation’s literature strand is strong and highly reputable with the high profile Creative Future Literary Awards making an impact across the literature sector. The organisation’s arts strand is currently under a process of review, research and development and it will be the new Director’s role to shape the new arts programme and secure funding for it. After recent extensive funding for organisational development, the organisation’s strategies and procedures are streamlined and up to date, ensuring a smooth running and efficient organisation. A new Director is being sought to bring fresh energy, new ideas and new contacts to the organisation. Alongside delivering its core services Creative Future also looks to influence regional policy and strategy via the Director’s role chairing local arts and health working groups and being a passionate advocate for underrepresented artists and writers in the arts sector.


Creative Future is a Brighton based charity that provides creative opportunities to those on society’s margins. By promoting artistic excellence, encouraging arts diversity and creativity for health and wellbeing, we provide a bridge from the margins to the mainstream, a catalyst for individual change, enabling people to use their creative talent to change their lives. Using innovative methods to bring new art to new audiences, we’re unique in the breadth of people we work with and the depth in how we work with them. Though Brighton based, Creative Future has grown significantly over the last 5 years and delivers activity across the UK.


Creative Future’s Director needs to be an inspirational leader, a passionate advocate for underrepresented artists and writers, a highly experienced fundraiser and a skilled organisational manager experienced in working in the voluntary sector. They need to have extensive knowledge of the arts sector and a wide variety of arts contacts. They will need significant strategic experience and the ability to inspire staff and service users and be comfortable working in a fast paced environment with restricted resources.


The Director will have a strong track record of work in the cultural sector and raising funds from a wide variety of sources. They will have passion, drive, commitment and integrity with a creative approach to problem solving and high level communication and negotiation skills. They will be enthusiastic about engaging with the many challenges that cross-sector working presents and be a passionate advocate for the underrepresented artists and writers
