Job Description:

Job purpose: 

 

 Menstrual Matters (www.menstrual-matters.com) is a not-for-profit online information and research hub, raising awareness about the role of the menstrual cycle, and hormonal medications, in a range of female-prevalent chronic health issues (e.g. asthma, anxiety, chronic fatigue, depression, irritable bowel syndrome, and migraine). We also produce a monthly blog about the social, political, and economic reasons why the menstrual cycle, and hormonal medications, may be ignored as a contributing factor in ill-health.

 

Menstrual Matters provides evidence-based information for free, and does not (and never will!) sell any user data to third parties for any purpose. 100% of any funding secured goes back into our research and information sharing activities. We are at a critical stage in our development (we were set up in February 2016), having recently been listed as a top 50 menstrual health blog (globally), and gaining more visitors, media coverage, and public visibility each month… As a result, we are looking for a digital communications specialist to help increase our traffic, boost our public profile in the UK, and help ensure that the website is meeting our users’ needs.

 

Key tasks and responsibilities:

 

  • Creating/ implementing a communications plan for 2018
  • Promoting our monthly blog via social media, and other online/ print platforms
  • Ensuring that content is inclusive, accurate, clearly communicated, and accessible to users
  • Helping to develop the Menstrual Matters brand
  • Website traffic/ Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) analytics to inform website content/ structure/ communications activities
  • Potential funding proposal writing support (but this is not expected to be a major part of this role)

 

Skills, knowledge, and experience:

 

Essential:

  • Confident self-starter
  • Experience in digital communications roles
  • Experience in creating communications plans/ processes, and impact monitoring/ evaluation
  • Experience in using WordPress (or similar website content management systems)
  • Excellent proof-reading/ writing/ editing skills
  • Excellent skills in using MS Office/ Facebook/ LinkedIn/ Twitter/ Google Analytics (or similar) 

 

Desirable:

  • Experience of awareness-raising campaigns, particularly within UK health sector
  • Existing UK media contacts, particularly within health/ women’s issues etc.
  • Experience in coordinating volunteers (only if additional social media communications support is required)
  • Interested in menstrual health or any other related chronic health issue
  • Able to dedicate the equivalent of four hours each week to the role (for a minimum of 6 months)
  • Based in, or near to, London (although this role is suitable for home-based work from anywhere, face-to-face meetings would likely be in London)

 

Salary: Voluntary position – all travel expenses will be reimbursed as required (Note- if new funding is acquired, there is the potential for some paid communications work)

 

Location: Working from home with occasional face-to-face meetings in London

 

Hours: 2-4 hours per week fully flexible
