RISE is an education charity passionate about raising the aspirations of young people in the UK. We have an innovative model that empowers secondary school students and broadens their horizons by exposing them to an experience of setting up their own social enterprise and connecting them with students in rural India. We want all UK students to have the opportunity to increase their social mobility, and our programme, The ROAR (Reach Out And Rise) Challenge, does this by developing key skills for employability and actively builds students’ understanding of the social sector and business world.
We are looking for an ambitious individual to help RISE scale The ROAR Challenge with the opportunity to grow the charity and UK team in partnership with the Founder over the next 3 years. This will be a hugely rewarding role offering the right candidate the potential to develop at a fast pace and demonstrate resilience through the challenges of a charity start-up environment. In the immediate short term the charity’s aim is to bring on board 20 new schools in London to run the programme in 2018 and to build a strategy to meet their charity’s 2020 goals.
Our ROAR Challenge programme is unique in offering students:
- The opportunity to form a team, create and deliver social enterprises in their school community; the funds they raise over the ‘Challenge Week’ go towards supporting partner students in rural India who they meet through video conferencing.
- 10 structured school workshops, with content ranging from social enterprise business models and global citizenship to leadership, teamwork and presentation skills.
- Activities led by Professional volunteers from a variety of global businesses who are role models providing insight into the world of work, business, and social enterprise.
- A high energy ‘POW’ event towards the beginning of the programme where students from all schools participating in The ROAR Challenge come together to develop their social enterprise idea supported by Professional mentors.
- The programme finale hosted by HSBC in Canary Wharf where the winning team of students from each school presents their social enterprise and learning journey to a panel of diverse high-profile judges at the ‘Dragons’ Den’ competition.
The Key Responsibilities of the Education Manager role will be to:
- Bring on board 20 schools in London in the short term and continue to scale The ROAR Challenge and new education programmes across the UK to enable the charity’s sustainability
- Expand the charity’s network of corporate volunteers supporting the ROAR Challenge to increase the impact of our programme in helping young people develop skills and understand new career paths
- Implement use of technology to enhance, diversify and scale our education programmes
This is the perfect role for the right candidate who has the following desirable skills and experience:
- experience of working on education programmes with schools
- experience of teaching in a school
- experience of building relationships with school and corporate stakeholders
- experience of budget development and financial management
- ability to work under pressure and be flexible with work timings
- can do attitude, positive outlook to work and life
- excellent project management/project implementation skills
- pro-active, assertive and confident self-starter with the ability to plan, own and deliver projects under minimal supervision
- organisational skills including the ability to prioritise work for self and for others
- passion and commitment to achieve educational equality and a keen interest in social enterprise/global citizenship/youth social action/employability/skill development and how the principles can be applied to our education programmes to impact a greater number of beneficiaries
Start Date: 26th February 2018
Duration: Permanent role for 3 years; flexibility to work part time
