Job Description:

Evaluation and Research Officer

Circa £29,000

Lumos is an international non-governmental, non-profit organisation founded by J.K. Rowling. Our vision is of a world where all children have the opportunity to grow up and thrive in loving, nurturing, protective families. We believe that children belong in families not orphanages and we aim to achieve our vision by 2050. We will do this by casting light onto the causes of institutionalisation and producing high-quality, compelling evidence of our long term, sustainable solutions.

This is an opportunity to lead a pioneering new evaluation initiative that will impact at an international level. You will contribute to the design of a new methodological framework for formative programme evaluations and child outcomes studies. By developing documentation, guidance and training materials, you’ll ensure that the framework can be implemented effectively and that colleagues have the confidence to use data and evidence in their everyday work. Where required, you’ll also provide tailored approaches for local contexts, populations and systems, supporting research and technical specialists in our regional hubs and country programmes with data collection methods and instruments.

Substantial experience of leading evaluation and research from study design through to analysis and reporting is essential. You must have a deep understanding of qualitative and quantitative research methods, with the expertise to adapt your skills and delivery for a wide range of audiences, conveying results clearly, accurately and with impact. Knowledge of a range of analysis software is important – NVIVO, SPSS, STATA or R. Ideally, you’ll also have experience of more advanced research techniques, such as data visualisation, economic appraisal, GIS mapping and data science. Experience of international development, social work or children’s rights is a real advantage.
