Healthcare Assistant-IPU


This is an ideal opportunity to develop your skills caring for patients with specialist palliative care needs. You will be well supported in your personal and professional development. You must have an NVQ 2 – Health & Social Care/Health Care or equivalent qualification and have experience of working in a healthcare setting.


Saint Catherine’s cares for adults with life limiting or life threatening conditions and their families, covering a large geographical area of approximately 1600 square miles encompassing the Borough of Scarborough, Ryedale and parts of East Yorkshire. Saint Catherine’s is a well-respected and loved organisation embedded in the community it serves and the prospect of developing our services to patients and their families further through our Hospice at Home and Care Homes Service is an exciting and rewarding challenge.

Hours: 37.5 hours per week (over 24/7)


Duration of Contract: Permanent

Job Purpose


To provide under supervision a high standard of nursing care on the In Patient Unit and to develop experience of palliative care and symptom control. To participate in integrated working across all Patient Services departments, with flexibility as needed to ensure effective service delivery in all areas. To observe and report the patient’s general condition and response to prescribed treatments to senior nursing and medical staff as appropriate.


Essential Qualifications, Skills, Knowledge and Experience


NVQ 2 – Health & Social Care/Health Care or equivalent qualification


Ability to deliver high quality nursing care


Experience of working in a healthcare setting


Enthusiastic and motivated with a positive attitude


Effective communication skills


Ability to maintain confidentiality


Ability to work within a team


Ability to work flexible hours days/nights and participate in integrated working across patient services departments


Computer skills – competent use of Microsoft and e-mail.


DBS clearance


Valid Work Permit (if applicable)



Salary: £15,000 - £20,000
